Fantastic scenes inside the Municipal de Montilivi as Girona win the first encounter between themselves and Real Madrid, whilst ending Zinedine Zidane’s side’s consecutive away victory record in LaLiga. The home side played much better than the away side throughout the contest, but it was Real Madrid who took the lead in the first-half after Isco followed up Cristiano Ronaldo’s shot before scoring. Girona hit the post before the end of the first-half, but it was four second-half minutes that transformed the game for them. Firstly Cristhian Stuani scored after a brilliant run from Borja Garcia, before Portu doubled the lead moments later after burying a cross from Pablo Maffeo into the back of the net.

DISALLOWED GOAL! Real Madrid thought they had equalised after Isco threaded a delightful through pass into the path of Lucas Vazquez, who turned with the ball before finishing into the bottom left-hand corner. The Spanish winger was flagged offside, however, to the delight of the Girona supporters.

Crazy scenes in Catalonia.

Girona hit two goals in four minutes after the break to stun Real.

This is the first time they have ever played the Madrid giants.

A 100 per cent record would be pretty incredible.

HUGE MISS! Cristhian Stuani has a brilliant opportunity to increase Girona’s advantage after being found in the box by Alex Granell. The Uruguayan was closed down quickly by Casilla in the Real Madrid goal, but the forward managed to dink it over him only to see his shot trickle past the left-hand post.

GOAL GIRONA 2-1 REAL MADRID – THE HOME SIDE ARE IN THE LEAD – The ball was initially played into the left-hand corner of the box towards Stuani, who saw his shot across goal saved by Casilla. Pablo Maffeo followed it up by meeting the rebound, which he struck powerfully across goal into the path of Portu who met the cross and buried it into the back of the net.

GOALL GIRONA 1-1 REAL MADRID – CRISTHIAN STUANI EQUALISES FOR THE HOSTS – A fantastic run from Borja Garcia saw him drift past three Real Madrid players with ease before setting up Stuani in the box. The forward drifted past Nacho, before firing his shot low past Kiko Casilla into the bottom right-hand corner.

HALF-TIME – GIRONA 0-1 REAL MADRID – It has been an enthralling contest at the Municipal de Montilivi, with Girona putting Real Madrid under immense pressure throughout the opening 45 minutes. The away side took the lead midway through the first-half after a swift counter-attack resulted in the ball eventually being played to Ronaldo, whose shot was saved and parried into the path of Isco who finished the rebound. Girona were unlucky not to equalise shortly after, however, as Portu’s header cannoned off the post from inside the 18-yard box.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Grimace is the almost constant look on Cristiano Ronaldo’s face this season.

The Portuguese superstar might have won the Best FIFA award last week, but is really struggling this season.

Another blank in the first half here.

Isco is quickly overtaking him as Real’s main man.

GOOOAAALLL!!! GIRONA 0–1 REAL MADRID – Girona have a fantastic opportunity to score up one end, but they are denied by the post before Real Madrid eventually broke up the pitch. Karim Benzema charged into the opposition half before finding Ronaldo who shot towards goal. His effort was saved by Bono, but Isco was the first to react to give the away side the lead.

Real Madrid are in for a politically tense afternoon as they travel to Catalan based Girona on Sunday.

The Catalan regional government declared its independence this weekend and some at Real Madrid fear a repeat of the disturbing scenes that took place during the referendum earlier this month.

But the game will go ahead as planned at the Estadi Montilivi as Real attempt to fight their deficit to Barcelona, who beat Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, back to five points.

Keylor Navas and Gareth Bale will definitely miss the clash through injury against Girona who are 15th in La Liga.

Real Madrid XI: Casilla, Varane, Achraf, Ramos, Marcelo, Casemiro, Modric, Kroos, Isco, Benzema, Ronaldo
